What's NEW (UPDATED 21st July 2008)

Rosegrove now offers to all guests.

We have also added weather reporting to our activities pages found on the WHATS NEARBY link.

I can’t believe it is June already! The weather recently has been excellent although still cold at night, hence the mountains are snow capped. The garden is looking very lush and is packed with birds, all very busy nesting and rearing their young. A huge thank you for the excellent service provided by the Heather Centre who have tamed the wildness. The guest house is very busy although it has been a little on the difficult side as on February 17th, (date is indelibly printed on my brain) I broke my fifth metatarsal and have, since then, been in some sort of a cast or other. The latest makes me look like an extra for a star wars movie; it is an air cast, a very heavy thing that gets pumped up so that I can manage to get about. It looks like I will eventually have to have it pinned and then another six to eight weeks in a cast. Jolly days. Still, we are managing although I have to confess that by the end of the day I am very bad tempered and turn into the Old Bag of Strathspey, although not with the guests I hasten to add. The worst thing is not being able to walk the dogs or to drive the car, I am going stir crazy!

Changes so far this year – all the electrics have been checked and certified so we know we are safe – we certainly weren’t before, the electricians found a few horror stories. The only down side to this is that the new consumer units are very sensitive and we have found that even a blown light bulb can plunge us ‘sans’ electricity, still better that way than something catching fire! Also our new best friend, Kenny Bonnington the plumber has fitted a new, all singing and dancing central heating boiler. The old one finally gave up the ghost on one of the coldest nights of the winter. Luckily we didn’t have any guests and had just enough electric heaters to keep us warm-ish. Not only has Kenny fitted the boiler but also the radiators have individual thermostats so the guests are now fully in control of their own comfort, no more worrying that every one is either too warm or too cold.

I think that is all that is new, at least on the surface. One good incidental thing that has helped in the Kitchen, I now have a larder which makes life a lot easier. The new boiler had to go outside so we suddenly acquired a huge cupboard, so it is thanks to Andy who came and kitted it all out with shelves and an internal light.

A quick catch up on the family for past guests who might be interested. Graham is doing well, he had a hip replacement in early February, (actually two weeks before I broke my foot!) We often go to the Revack Restaurant near Grantown and there we were Graham on his crutches and me on mine; Vicki and Laura were with us, Stav, owner and chef extraordinaire leant forward and said ‘what are you two girls having for Christmas next year? Crutches? You can be the crutch family – ha ha ha! What a wag!!

What's NEW Continued

James is still at Prodrive, but not for long, he has finally had enough of travelling and no time for himself and is moving into something completely different. Hopefully we shall see more of him and he will be able to spend more time here at home. Laura is a civil servant working for the Insolvency Service, she is finding travelling backwards and forwards here very trying since it was decided to drop the air service between Inverness and Heathrow, she now has to struggle to Gatwick and pay a lot more for the privilege. James and Laura have signed up for Trek Peru in October of this year, all in aid of Parkinson's disease; more details on www.theparallellines.co.uk; for those reading this of a generous nature this is also where you can make donations to the cause – all contributions very welcome.

Vicki is really enjoying being a student nurse although trying to look after us, working in the community and attempting to keep on top of all the academic side of things is proving to be a real struggle. She is currently on placement at Ian Charles Hospital in Grantown, which is a lot better than getting her to Uni in Inverness everyday, for a time we were spending more on fuel than food.

Well that is it, we look forward to welcoming ‘customers' old and new and wish every one a good summer.
